Sedbergh (pronounced Sedber or, per locals, Sebber) occurs as village within Cumbria. Prior to a boundary reorganization of 1974 it was in the West Riding of Yorkshire. It lie around Dozen klick east of Kendal and about Xv kilometer n of Kirkby Lonsdale. Anomalously, although these are at present inside Cumbria, it lies good inside a Yorkshire Dales National Park. It lies at a foot of the Howgill Fells on the north bank of the River Rawthey, which joins the River Lune about 4 klick beneath Sedbergh. George Fox, a founder of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), spoke in St Andrew's church (which he known as the "steeple house") & in nearby Firbank Fell during his travels in the north of England in 1652. Nearby Briggflatts Quaker Meeting Home was built within 1675. Sedbergh School is a co-educational boarding school in the town.
